- Origin
- Brazil
- Protection status
- A DANGEROUS ANIMAL – highly venomous, and responsible for deaths among children in Brazil; keeping it requires a permit or notification, varying by German state
- Brumation
- None
- Cohabitation
- Keep them singly. The species reproduces without males, so a single female is enough for offspring; a group brings no advantage. Scorpions are solitary and eat conspecifics given the chance, and with such a venomous animal every extra animal is also an extra escape and sting risk. Group only temporarily for a mother and her young, then separate them.
Notes
It reproduces parthenogenetically – a single animal can found an entire colony, which makes the escape risk especially tricky. A medically highly significant neurotoxin. Only in secured containers with an emergency plan.
